Stinger, a member of the DCU Animated and Super Buddies forums, has fan fic he is creating using redesigned members of the forums as team members of the Pointmen, the team his character, Stinger, sets up. This NightJim appears to be a mixture of the first design, the JLA version and some Stinger magic.
Spurred on by the design, I came up with a bio for this NightJim.
Like Stinger’s relationship to Superman, NightJim has nothing to do with Nightwing. In fact he didn’t even know of him until later in his career when Nightwing tracked him down to find out why their names were so similar.
James Walker grew up without a care in the world. His parent’s were comfortably wealthy, not major amounts of money but James’ certainly didn’t have to worry about anything when he was young. Unfortunately, this existence had made James very laid back and let life pass him by. Trying to put some urgency into James his father enrolled him into a number of different pursuits, where he excelled. At Ju Jitsu it was often said that if he applied himself properly he may have gotten to tournament level and maybe even turned pro. But this wasn’t to be, James’ attitude held him back. His father was at a loss, a Martial Arts school, rock climbing, swimming, kayaking and more all said the same “He’s brilliant, but he doesn’t apply himself.” His regular teachers said the same. What his father had achieved was create an intelligent young man trained in numerous activities who just couldn’t be bothered. James would much rather be out with his friends, having fun and chasing girls.
That was until one day. At the age of nineteen James was at the Mall bumming about with his friends when a rather elaborate robbery took place. A gang of armed robbers sealed the place up with the intention of stealing from every single shop there. Unfortunately, the one thing James truly liked about all the activities his father sent him on was the adrenalin rush, and he saw this as a way to the ultimate rush. He and his friends had been trapped in a small shop at the start of the siege and there was only one robber guarding the store. James tackled the guard and manage to overpower him. Using some of the skills he had learned James was able to make a sizeable dent in the robber’s plans and made it very easy for the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team to take the Mall back.
Of course the local media lapped up the fact that a local boy had help save the day and overnight James was a celebrity. James had enjoyed fighting the criminals and found he liked the new status the results had given him. A joke between his friends about how different James was when out with them and not his parents soon became his ‘stage’ name, and NightJim was born. It wasn’t long before local companies were hiring NightJim to star in their commercials and make guest appearances. As his star rose so did his media opportunities and now NightJim is known throughout the state for his heroic deeds and his selling ability.
Although initially appalled at what his son was doing, James’ father slowly came to realize how serious James was about the whole thing and how hard he was applying himself. Seeing his son actually doing something and making a difference changed his mind and starting helping to fund his son’s exploits. Of course none of this doesn’t match the resources of a company like Wayne Enterprises, it certainly affected how NightJim operated. Instead of chasing down small time criminals, he was going after much bigger fish, not realising slowly but surely he was making enemies in the local organised crime families.
Although a local hero and celebrity NightJim’s pretty unheard of by the larger superhero community. Thanks to the advertising money and his contributions NightJim now has bullet proof and stab proof suit and a car that any street racer would be proud of.
