A website I used to frequent, Superbuddies.net, occasionally holds Create a Character Contests. This one in particular teamed an artist up with a writer. I worked with Stinger and created SuperStar. Stinger won the top artist prize.
For this round of the Create-a-Character Contest, we called on contestants to join forces and form a "Creative Team"! Consisting of a writer and artist, each creative team was charged with devising a new codename and design for an existing hero suffering from amnesia! Entries were judged on both the character's biography as well as their costume design
Working alongside Stinger, we created SuperStar. StarFire who assumed she played an extremely important role took little snippets of what could be remembered and what felt natural and took on the mantle of one of the Big 3. Figuring she was alien, super strong and could fly she named herself:
Waking with no idea who she was, one of the first things the girl realised was she wasn’t like anybody else. Their skin was pale to dark, all quite dull colours. Hers was golden. She needed to see more, were there others like her or was she alone? Without realising she was lifting into the air, the people in the street gasping as the Golden Skinned rose in what seemed like fire. Above the skyline she looked about, she could see a long majestic red bridge, and on an island in the water was something that really caught her eye. A Giant T-shaped building. If there was going to be anyone like her surely that would be a good place to start. When she arrived she was met by two men and was pleased to find she was not as alone as she thought. While one of the men was of dull skin, it was mixed with Metal. The other’s skin was a bright green and was able to take the form of animals. As she spoke to them it appeared none of them could remember anything. They tried searching databases, news channels, everything, to no avail.
Nothing was shedding any light on their predicament, they just kept seeing reports of attacks from people were powers as bizarre as their own. The only thing that made any sense were vague references to a League for Justice that were missing, though there was nothing concrete. It was enough to get a reaction from all three of them and considering what they had found out it made sense that this League was them, it would explain their powers and loss of memory. There were certain aspects of this League that they could remember and as they worked them out, different aspects seemed to apply to each of them. The Golden Skinned one certainly felt a kinship to one of the major members, she could fly, fire energy beams and was extremely strong. She designed her costume taking elements of what she remembered and others that felt natural to her and dubbed herself “SuperStar”.
